The one and only Regina

Last night I saw Regina Spektor! It was amazing. She is incredible. What else can I say? Her voice is gorgeous and she makes singing and playing the piano sound so effortless! She played all my favourite songs but mainly from her most recent album, Far. She went off for a bit but everyone cheered for so long that she came back and did a few more songs from Begin to Hope - Fidelity, Samson, Hotel Song.. :)
She really is incredible.

Sarah and Bea's Photographic Adventures: No. 3

Last night, Bea came over and we watched Titanic, which was lovely. And intensely sad.
It got a bit late but, nevertheless, I did her makeup a bit and we went outside to take photos - I'd been looking forward to taking photos at night to see what happens when the flash goes off. The only bad thing is you can't tell what you're taking photos of until you've taken them.. which can be a bit amusing.
So, we had this idea to throw leaves. Which turned out amazing. We seem to have a lot of gorgeous autumn leaves out the front of my house, so, Bea sat in them and we started throwing them and.. you shall see the effect :)

I got Skype last night, as well! So I can speak to my friend who lives in Singapore! We spoke to her and it was a bit sad :( especially when we had to hang up..

Yesterday, I bought a few new things from American Apparel - my first American Apparel experience (haha). I bought a lovely checked, black and white high-waisted skirt, a green dress that crosses at the back and some socks and tights! I love frilly socks and long socks at the moment. So easy to obsess over, i tell you!

Lots of ideas of art. Shall keep you posted..

Painting form

This is my most recent painting of a photo from the last issue of Vogue Australia. I gave this painting to a friend of mine after she asked me to do a painting for her (and then another girl from school asked for a painting.. and then one of my sisters, too!). I'm very happy with it and it is now on her wall in her bedroom :) How exciting :)
Now I need to find another photo to paint for my next painting.. and the one for my sister.. and for art at school as well!

This term, I've decided to take inspiration from a couple of amazing fashion illustrators:
Kelly Smith - who I adore. She has such an incredible style using pencil and watercolours.

Bec Winnel is another amazing fashion illustrator. Her pieces are so dreamy :)
http://becwinnel.com/
Last but not least, Sarah Hankinson who I recently discovered. Her style is quite like that of Kelly Smith's - using pencil, charcoal and inks in greys and then splashes of colour. Amazing.

Here's an amazing piece by Sarah Hankinson :)

Last wednesday I had my first SAC for Revolutions! Scary! I think it went okay-ish, though, so we shall see...

P.S How could I forget to say this?! I'm going on the French Exchange! My girl will be here at the end of this term I think? And then I go over to Lyon - or somewhere near Lyon - for a few weeks and then to Paris for a week! :)

she & him

I have a new obsession:
She & Him are such a gorgeous, quirky band! Zooey Deschanel - yep, the actress (500 Days of Summer) - sings! Which you may have heard before if you've seen 500 Days of Summer.. And she's got a great voice :) And apparently plays piano.. and writes all the songs for She & Him herself!
I bought their two albums today and love, love, love them both. A lot :) Yep, my newest obsession..

Aside from that, I got a cute pair of tights today :) I suppose tights and socks are another of my obsessions of the moment - I can not get enough of frilly socks and cute tights. I found a pair of Leona Edmiston tights today - they're a sheer pink with spots all over. Gorgeous!

Abbey Lee, you are amazing

You know what show I used to absolutely love when I was little? Well, actually, I still love it... Full House! It just so happened to be on TV tonight and, of course, I couldn't help but watch it. I never realised how corny it is...
I'm currently in the middle of finishing up my last piece for my art folio, a watercolour, although, at the moment, it's a drawing. I'm using one of the gorgeous photos from the Russian Vogue shoot with Abbey Lee Kershaw - it doesn't exactly look like her, but I'm trying to get the idea at least.. Plus, she's wearing roses in her hair and it looks so lovely :)

I love the colours in this shoot - such pretty pastels..
A couple of weeks ago I made a wonderful purchase - I bought a polaroid camera! It's a bit vintage and old - but it looks practically like new. I haven't used it as yet but I can not wait!

Marie, Aurora, Snow White, Belle and Alice

What with my constant studying/reading about/writing about the French Revolution, it seems that all I'm thinking about these days is France, Marie Antoinette and French. I'm not complaining as such, but wow. Who would have thought that I would have no room to think of anything else! Apart from school work and the school magazine.. Unfortunately, I also, as you can tell, have had practically no time to divert my attention to my blog!

I remember seeing "Marie Antoinette" starring Kirsten Dunst a little while ago and now it seems that it's all finally making sense - why they didn't like her and what not... I was also incredibly disappointed when my history teacher told us that she never actually said "Let them eat cake"! I think we were all quite disappointed! Now, I really want to watch the film again - which we may in class, even though it's not exactly all that reliable what with the drama and cinematic effects that they used and what not.. But the costumes were gorgeous! So extravagant! Well, I suppose that's Marie Antoinette for you..

Aside from history, I'm really looking forward to taking some more photos of Bea and possible others in the style of fairytales! In particular, I can't wait to create "Beauty and the Beast"! All we need is a beast..
In a couple of weeks, hopefully we'll be off to the market to see if we can find a few cheap-ish buys to use :)
I've also got an idea for "Sleeping Beauty" involving flowers.. :) and Snow White is sure to be pretty amazing! - I hope!!! :)

Speaking of fairytales and photography, I found a couple of gorgeous, gorgeous photos (on Polyvore, of course - where else?!) based on Alice in Wonderland - not the Natalia Vodianova ones from Vogue, though I adore those!
Okay, well, one of them is based on Alice, the other, I'm not sure, but it's stunning - I love the contrast of the red hat!

Alannah and Arabella

Alannah Hill is just about my most favourite designer EVER. Have I ever mentioned that? She's amazing - I love her use of colours and pretty textures like lace and tulle (my favourite materials) and just her overall incredible sense of fashion and design. I had a few vouchers to use recently and luckily she was having a sale! :) I bought a pair of gorgeous, long, black, patterned tights, a pair of knee-high, black socks with white spots on them and a pair of little ankle socks (that were more like short tights) - pink with a pretty cream pattern on them. I wore the last pair I mentioned for the first time the other day and they were toooo pretty :) I also bought a pretty little black and white singlet .. sigh :) I adore stripes at the moment..
Another of my favourite designers is Arabella Ramsay.. sigh :) Her designs and the pieces of clothing she puts together are so unique - there's something about them that's hard to describe .. maybe a little bit eccentric? But, so gorgeous! During a sale a couple of years ago, I bought a beautiful, blue, cropped jacket with big, white buttons and a pretty little collar. Stunning, I tell you.

I don't know about you, but I love this outfit - especially the short-sleeved leather jacket! AH! A pink leather jacket.. sighhhh :)

Andy won last night! :) And Federer and Hewitt are on tonight! Intense.. Federer really is adorable - don't you think? :)

P.S I found a beautiful dress today - black with a sweetheart neckline but also with little sleeves and a diamond cut out of the back with a little bow at the dip of the neckline.. and the skirt came out and made is so gorgeous. Ah, so beautiful.. I can see a formal dress ..

Night in

Okay, so I'm really a bit obsessed with "City of Bones" at the moment.. It's been a while since I last woke up and sat in bed reading and for the past couple of days I have been! I used to think that I wasn't quite into fantasy novels but I'm starting to think that I kind of am..?
Today, I've spent the day mostly with my eldest sister :) We've been wandering around looking at a cute antique store with the most BEAUTIFUL, old grand piano (sigh.. so gorgeous), catching glimpses of celebrities (okay so, sort of.. we saw one celebrtity.. Charlie Pickering haha) and crying over an old Shirley Mclaine film, "Terms of Endearment"... my, oh, my.. it's almost as bad as "Beaches"!! Although, I wasn't quite howling as much as I would have been in that case.. but, still!
I also showed my sister a few bits of GLEE :D Which, to her surprise, she seemed to rather enjoy :) It is, after all, rather amazing :) We both seem to find the bit in the episode "Vitamin D" when they're all high on decongestant particularly hilarious.. And the bit when Puck sings "Sweet Caroline" adorable :) Even though I've never really liked that song.. :)
We've also been watching a bit of the tennis tonight! We missed Hewitt and Baghdatis, but we watched quite a bit of Haas and Tsonga! Good match! Although we missed the end.. But, it was so hard to pick a player to go for! I adore Tsonga - although, who doesn't?! - and have seen Haas play twice this week.. tough decision!
Here are a couple of photos from the open this week :) The first is of Del Potro when we saw him training and the second is of the match between Haas and Tipsarevic :)

Tipsarevic is the one closest to the camera and Haas is receiving at this point :)

My latest obsessions

Today, I got a friend from school hooked on a book that I'm reading at the moment. It's the first book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, called "City of Bones". It's also a fantasy novel about a world of magic and darkness - maybe not the most well-written book, but it certainly seems to get you a little obsessed. So, I suppose this is one of my latest obsessions. Yes, I did in fact discover this series on Polyvore...
For those who have never watched Glee, you are really missing out! It is also one of my latest obsessions; it's cute, a bit quirky and I adore the music! I love that there have been so many films and shows incorporating singing into the storyline like a musical for TV or cinema, not just Broadway. Yes, I am one of those people who wishes that everyone would break out into song on the streets one day! :) I would love it .. haha

A past obsession of mine was drawing eyes, however, once I get back to school and begin doing more art again, I just know that my love of drawing eyes will most definitely begin again! This is a scan of what I did one day during this particular obsession out of boredom with a pack of aquarelle pencils and brushes and water...
